Why should my child grow up with a label, as there are children causing as much trouble who come from wealthy backgrounds but never see their parents because they are too busy working to keep the big house and the flash cars, etc.It would be helpful to single mums to offer guidance such as a positive role model instead of people coming down on them like a ton of bricks. When you leave hospital with a newborn baby on your own, and you have no family, what real help is there out there apart from having to deal with health visitors and social services?Thankfully I am not in their position and I have family and friends around me to support me to make sure my son is healthy, happy and has a positive future. It is also an opportunity to thank people like Grace at our local MP's office who knows what a struggle I have had to stay at college and the fight I have had with benefit offices, childcare and other issues just because I wanted to reduce my working hours while I am at college.
Woman pleads no contest to child endangerment
A woman who ran an unlicensed daycare out of her Cedar Park home pleaded no contest Monday. She was charged with endangering a child after leaving an infant charged in her care in a shed in 101-degree weather. Hope Gracia Ruiz, 59, was placed on seven years probation Monday by a judge in Georgetown. In addition, she was fined $2,500 to help cover court costs. If Ruiz meets terms of probation for the next seven years, her record will be wiped clean. According to court documents, Ruiz had a false day care license that she showed parents. Williamson County prosecutors said Ruiz didnt receive a harsh sentence because no child in her care sustained long-term injuries.

Liberal platform calls for tuition increases
Premier Jean Charest presented a platform Friday calling for annual increases of $100 in university tuition fees for five years and annual income-tax cuts of $250 million. The platform, called, Together we can build a successful future for Quebec, is to be approved by delegates to a special Quebec Liberal convention tomorrow. It says the province has done well under the Charest government, proposing a second mandate under the theme of continuity. Finance Minister Michel Audet will table a budget on Tuesday, clearing the way for the election to be called the following day for March 26. .
